On Saturday, September 27th, Troop 1920 laced up their boots and headed to Aberdeen, MD for an exciting day of orienteering. It was a skill-building adventure that combined hiking, navigation, and teamwork. Set in wooded trails and open fields, the scouts were challenged to put their map-reading and compass skills to the test as they navigated a series of checkpoints spread across the terrain. First the scouts learned how to use a compass and orient a map with the help of Mr. John. Then, the scouts split up into their buddy pairs and set off on the course. This tested their ability to plan routes, stay oriented, and work together under pressure. Along the way, they encountered natural obstacles, made strategic decisions, and learned how to adapt when things didn’t go exactly as planned.
The orienteering day was a great opportunity for Scouts to build confidence, practice leadership, and enjoy the outdoors. Whether they were experienced hikers or first-time navigators, every scout walked away with new skills, stronger friendships, and a deeper appreciation for nature. Troop 1920 is already looking forward to their next outdoor challenge!
